Getting Ready for Manchester Pride 2012

Manchester Gay Pride is one of the best known events revered throughout the world, alongside London Pride and Brighton Pride.

Most people are familiar with Pride, the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual event that takes place in various locations around the world each year. One of the UK venues for the Pride event is in Manchester. This year’s Manchester Pride festival will be held between Friday 17th August and Monday 27th August, during which time lots of events and shows will be laid on for people to enjoy.

One of the key parts of Manchester Pride and indeed the other Pride events that occur in the UK and abroad is the main parade. This is a real sight to behold and is a lot of fun for those taking part as well as the thousands who turn up to watch the parade pass by. The theme for the Manchester Pride parade of 2012 is called Queer’d Science. It aims to remember the unique contributions made by Alan Turing. Among other things he helped to break codes during the war.

The ten day event culminates with the parade on the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend. This forms part of the so called Big Weekend with music acts and comedians performing and various other acts taking part too.

As many people will know, Gay Pride events take place in several parts of the UK during the year as well, perhaps most notably in London and Brighton. But the fun does not stop here. Lots of foreign countries celebrate Pride too.

For example the first week of July sees the celebration of Gay Pride in Budapest. Earlier in the year Barcelona in Spain, Dublin in Ireland and Toronto in Canada all held their own Pride events. August sees the celebration of Gay Pride in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Prague and Montreal. It is clear that this is a major event that brings together gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in many parts of the world. Indeed some people travel to other countries to experience Gay Pride events away from home too.

If you are considering going to Manchester Pride, you may want to make the most of it by staying in a hotel for a few nights. This is a good alternative to simply visiting for the day. It is worth booking a room as quickly as possible though, so you won’t be disappointed. The event is hugely popular and rooms will be booked up quickly at hotels in and around Manchester. Be open minded in checking hotel availability. Look for smaller boutique hotels in and around the city to try and find a suitable room that isn’t too far from where all the events will take place.

Wherever you choose to stay, you can be sure of seeing and enjoying the highlights of this year’s Manchester Pride.
