From the South of France to the Spanish Islands many British holidaymakers will be spending a large proportion of their time within hotel complexes and by the pool. This article will look at some of the poolside essentials to help you enjoy your holiday.

Sitting by the pool relaxing can be an excellent way to escape the hurried norm of work and home. To do this though you'll need to keep your brain ticking over at least a little as sleeping all day just will not do. Taking some entertainment to the poolside is the perfect solution. Of course the classic choice is to take a book to read, or a crossword puzzle. My suggestion would be to ditch the lounger, slap on some waterproof sun cream and hit the pool itself! Take a ring or lido with you and join in with the kids if you have them. Although not lying about, this can be as mentally relaxing as you won't have a second to think or worry about home or heading back to work.Clothing
Swimming Costume
Of course an essential piece of poolside clobber is the bathing suit or swimming bottoms. For modesty reasons and the self conscious sometimes it may be preferable to opt for swimming short style bottoms for both men and women. The advantages of swimming shorts for women is that it's possible to get a pretty feminine pair which are still short and flattering, but which can go over bikini bottoms should you wish.Rash Vest
Naturally when spending anytime in or by the pool in the sun you should be wearing a water-resistant sun cream. For additional protection from the sun you may wish to purchase a 'rash vest'. A rash vest is a top which is designed to be worn beneath a wetsuit but has become a mainstay with extreme sports goers looking for SPF and UV protection whilst not having to wear the full wetsuit in warmer weather. Rash vests can be a great addition to any summer wardrobe, and if given to children can provide a little extra peace of mind to any parent. Bear in mind that not all rash vests contain UV protection so it's worth checking with the label or manufacturer before using.Footwear
First thing that comes to mind when you think poolside footwear is flip flops, these obviously being great for warm weather but perhaps not the best footwear available for the hazardous poolside environment. An alternative to flip flops are waterproof shoe styles such as Crocs and styles like the Crocs Crocbands. Crocs Crocbands are made from lightweight waterproof material called Croslite, this being so lightweight that your shoes will float if they accidentally fall in the pool! Many styles of Crocs feature gulley's for water to drain from and a rear strap on most styles designed to keep the shoe on the foot at all times.Citations:
