To have a classic and wonderful
railway journey in Australia
you must travel by The Ghan Train. The Ghan train runs between Adelaide
and Alice springs. Work on it was started in 1878
but it started up to Alice Springs in 1929.Now this track has extended up to Darwin in 2004. The total
length of this track is 2979km and the time taken to complete the journey is 53
hours. The train stops in Katherine and Alice Springs
.
ADELAIDE:
The southern end of the Ghan is
Adelaide. This city doesn’t have any attractions. Various wine regions are
close to Adelaide.
From Adelaide till Alice Springs
the journey takes about 26 hours.
ALICE SPRINGS
It is extremely hot as it lies
in the desert. There is a stop for 4 hours at Alice. It is better to spend some days in the
Red Centre. You can also join 4WD tour. The main disadvantage of spending some
days in Red Center is that it has bush flies which
are more irritating than the heat.
The journey to Katherine will be
spent in darkness as the Ghan leaves Alice Springs in evening. There is again a stop of 4 hours
in Katherine. There you can have a helicopter tour which is the best tour but
the most expensive.
In the late afternoon the trains goes kakadu from Darwin in north. Darwin
is a tropical part of Australia
and is an interesting town .If you want to visit the Kakadu National park
then you can visit at any time except between December and April.
If you want to save money and is
enthusiastic for railway then the Ghan is the better option .Traveling by the
Ghan is interesting. So travel by trains in Kakadu and have the wonderful
railway journey from Darwin.
